Denise Darcel

Born - 8 September 1924, Paris, France
Died - 23 December 2011

Buxom, light-haired (though sometimes red or even brunette) nightclub singer and actress, once voted 'Prettiest Girl in France' before moving to America in post-war times, though she never lost a throaty, sultry European accent. Born Denise Billecard, her film career was brief and spanned just a few years: To the Victor (1948), Thunder in the Pines (1948), Battleground (1949), Tarzan and the Slave Girl (1950), Challenge the Wilderness (1951), Westward the Women (1951), Young Man with Ideas (1952), Flame of Calcutta (1953), Dangerous When Wet (1953) and Vera Cruz (1954), followed by an isolated later appearance in Seven Women from Hell (1961). She returned to entertaining in nightclubs and on TV and, as her career waned, later worked as a croupier in a casino. Four times married, she died from surgical complications following a ruptured aneurysm.
