Apple-cheeked, brown-haired leading lady of the 1930s and early 1940s who retired to marry a Broadway producer. Born Mary Rogers, one of triplets, she became a Ziegfeld Girl and acted under her real name until 1937, making her debut in the 1933 film My Weakness. She played small roles until changing her name, blossoming as a leading lady in Torture Money (1937) and Fast Company (1938). Later star roles included Abe Lincoln in Illinois and Riders of the Purple Sage (both 1940) and Billy the Kid (1941). She signed off with The Loves of Edgar Allan Poe in 1942.
