Quirky, slightly gawky, long-necked British actress and singer with short dark hair, in America from the 1960s and best remembered as one of the Pigeon sisters in the stage, film and TV versions of The Odd Couple. A Tony winner for her work in The Elephant Man, she also starred in the original Broadway production of Wicked. The daughter of a composer and an opera singer, she was in acting from childhood, but film appearances are scattered over the decades: Give Us This Day (1949), It's Great to Be Young! (1956), Carry On Regardless (1961), No, My Darling Daughter (1961), Carry On Cabby (1963), The Boston Strangler (1968), The Odd Couple (1968), Some Kind of a Nut (1969), voices in The Aristocats (1970) and Robin Hood (1973), The Whoopee Boys (1986), Little Noises (1991), Quiz Show (1994), The Road to Wellville (1994), Jungle 2 Jungle (1997), Labor Pains (2002) and Aunt Clara in Bewitched (2005), her last. She died from cancer.
