Dark-haired Franco-Swiss actress with full lips and sharply defined features - also a singer of prolific output in a number of musical genres. Born Maitena Doumenach, she remains best recalled as an actress for her leading role opposite Alain Delon in Plein Soleil/Purple Noon in 1960, her debut film. Subsequently, she was seen in many others, including Saint-Tropez Blues (1960), The Girl with the Golden Eyes (1961), Dark Journey (1962), A Cause, a Cause d'une Femme (1963), Blue Panther (1965), Jack of Diamonds (1967), Tom Thumb (1972), Flic ou Voyou (1979), Joyeuses Paques/Happy Easter (1984), Sale Destin! (1987), L'avare/The Miser (1990), Who Wants to Kill Sara? (1992), Tell Me Yes... (1995), Tykho Moon (1996), Heroines (1997), Jeux pour Mourir (2000) and Les Bureaux de Dieu (2008), her last. Director Jean-Gabriel Albicocco was the first of her five husbands, all divorced.
