Gail Gilmore

Born - 4 October 1937, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Died - 2 March 2014

Bubbly blonde entertainer, a member of a Canadian ballet company at 15 and in Hollywood from 1962. Born Gail Gerber, the name under which she started her career, she straightway got the lead in a stage presentation of Under the Yum Yum Tree, but lost the film version to Carol Lynley, and was thereafter mainly seen as a dancer in Elvis Presley musicals and similar teen fare: Beach Ball, Girl Happy, Harem Holiday, Girls on the Beach and Village of the Giants, all released in 1965. The following year she met writer Terry Southern, subsequently becoming his longtime companion until his death in 1995. Her only subsequent films were The Magic Christian (1969), End of the Road (1970) and, much later, Lucky Days (2008) and River of Fundament (2014), her last. A ballet teacher for much of her middle years, she died from lung cancer.
