Rona Anderson

Actress

Born - 3 August 1925, Edinburgh, Scotland
Died - 23 July 2013

Fragrant, light-haired Scots-born actress who shed her accent to become the English-rose-type star of dozens of UK second feature comedies, dramas and thrillers in post-war years. Though sometimes cast as a resourceful heroine, she was also seen as the shy type who often had to be rescued by the hero at the last minute. After a debut in Sleeping Car to Trieste (1948), some of her better films included Floodtide (1949), The 20 Questions Murder Mystery (1950), Scrooge (1951), Home to Danger (1951), Whispering Smith Hits London (1952), The Black Rider (1954), Little Red Monkey (1955), Soho Incident (1956), The Solitary Child (1958), The Bay of St Michel (1963) and Devils of Darkness (1965). After The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1968), she was seen only occasionally on TV. Following the death of her husband, fellow Scottish actor Gordon Jackson, in 1990, from bone cancer, she returned to the stage work she had begun at 16. Her last film appearance was a wordless cameo in the 2012 comedy Run for Your Wife.
