Born - 29 July 1924, Los Angeles, California, USA
Died - 9 March 2016

Tall, rugged, square-built, brown-haired actor who flirted with film stardom but is best remembered as the frontier scout Flint McCullough in the long-running TV western series Wagon Train. Born Meade Horton Jr, he had entered films with a role in the combat film A Walk in the Sun (1945) before real military service intervened. Returning, he was placed under contract to MGM: The Tanks Are Coming (1951), Return of the Texan (1952), Apache War Smoke (1952), Code Two (1953), Arena (1953), Men of the Fighting Lady (1954) and Prisoner of War (1954). Freelancing, he made The Man is Armed (1956) and much TV before picking up his iconic role in Wagon Train. Later films included The Dangerous Days of Kiowa Jones (1966), The Green Slime (1968) and a TV movie remake of Red River (1988), his last. The second of his three wives was the tragic singer-actress Barbara Ruick, who died from a brain haemorrhage at 43.
