Betsy Drake

Actress

Born - 11 September 1923, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France
Died - 27 October 2015

Brown-haired actress of somewhat homely prettiness, a member of the family that built Chicago's famous Drake Hotel. On stage from 1947, she had a very meagre film output in spite of a winning personality: Every Girl Should Be Married (1948), Dancing in the Dark (1949), Pretty Baby (1950), Ellen (1950), Room for One More (1952), Oh! For a Man/Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957), Intent to Kill (1958), Next to No Time (1958) and Clarence, the Cross-Eyed Lion (1965), her last, although she also appeared in the 2004 film documentary Cary Grant: A Class Apart. She had become Grant's third wife in 1949; they divorced in 1962 and she never remarried, remaining friends with Grant until his death. She also wrote the original screenplay for her then-husband's film Houseboat in 1958.
