Round-faced, dark-haired, owl-eyed, chameleon English character player, often in comedy, but in such a wide variety of characterisations that once, on being told 'Just be yourself,' Fowlds replied: "I don't know how to do that'. Perhaps best-known for TV work, especially The Basil Brush Show, Yes, Minister, Yes, Prime Minister and Heartbeat, he also worked on a number of films: The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner (1962), We Joined the Navy (1962), Tamahine (1963), Doctor in Distress (1963), East of Sudan (1964), Hotel Paradiso (1966), Frankenstein Created Woman (1967), The Smashing Bird I Used to Know (1969), Tower of Evil (1972), Mistress Pamela (1973), The Copter Kids (1976), Over the Hill (1992) and a small cameo in Run for Your Wife (2012), his last. He died from pneumonia.
