Audrey Long

Actress

Born - 14 April 1922, Orlando, Florida, USA
Died - 19 September 2014

Tall, cool, brown-haired (but sometimes blonde), quietly attractive American actress, a leading lady in 'B' features of the 1940s and early 1950s, whose unassertive but sturdy talent was seen in film-noirs, westerns and other outdoors dramas and even the odd musical, many of these in the low-budget Cinecolor. Supposedly in several walk-ons in Universal and Warner films (few records of which seem to exist) of the early 1940s, she made her debut proper in The Male Animal (1942) and was almost always seen as 'good girls' thereafter: Eagle Squadron (1942), Tall in the Saddle (1944), A Game of Death (1945), Perilous Holiday (1946), Desperate (1947), Born to Kill/Lady of Deceit (1947), Adventures of Gallant Bess (1948), Post Office Investigator (1949), Blue Blood (1950), Cavalry Scout (1951), Sunny Side of the Street (1951) and Indian Uprising (1952), her last. That year, she met and married (second) Leslie Charteris, author of the 'Saint' books; they remained married until his death in 1993.
