Lori Nelson

Actress

Born - 15 August 1933, Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA
Died - 23 August 2020

Blonde (often with upswept hair) beauty contest winner with slim figure and enthusiastic, winning personality, born Dixie Nelson, signed by Universal-International at only 17 and groomed by them for stardom. She started with a good one, opposite James Stewart and Rock Hudson in Where the River Bends/Bend of the River in 1951, but her acting only proved strong enough for leads in co-features and series comedies, and the studio let her go when her five-year contract was up, though not before they worked her hard: Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair (1952), Francis Goes to West Point (1952), All I Desire (1953), The Winning Way (1953), Tumbleweed (1953), Walking My Baby Back Home (1954), Destry (1954), Ma and Pa Kettle at Waikiki (1954), Underwater! (1955), Revenge of the Creature (1955), I Died a Thousand Times (1955), Pardners (1956), Hot Rod Girl (1956), Untamed Youth (1957) and The Pied Piper of Hamelin (1957). She was busy on TV until 1961, then married composer Johnny Mann and temporarily retired. After their 1973 divorce, she made a few more films much later on - Black Gaucho (1991), Mom, Can I Keep Her? (1998) and The Naked Monster (2005), her last. She died from Alzheimer's Disease.
