Brian Bedford

Actor

Born - 16 February 1935, Morley, Yorkshire, England
Died - 13 January 2016

Dark-haired, strong-chinned, doe-eyed, thoughtful-looking English actor who, despite some leading roles, never made it big in films. Instead he became a titan of the stage, especially in period works by Shakespeare, Moliere, Chekhov and others, where he revelled in the authors' more extravagant characters. In his early career, though, there were quite a few films: Miracle in Soho (1957), The Angry Silence (1959), Number Six (1962), The Punch and Judy Man (1963), the star role in The Pad...and How to Use It (1966) and Grand Prix (1966). Later film work included the title voice in Disney's Robin Hood (1973), Nixon (1995) and a riotous Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest (2011), his last. He died from cancer.
