Round-faced, bespectacled British director who went to America and became a TV movie specialist there. Originally a camera operator - first film Temptation Harbour (1947) - he branched out into direction in the 1950s, making largely horror films (two with Boris Karloff) and crazy comedies: The Green Man (1956), Grip of the Strangler (1958), Corridors of Blood (1958), Tarzan the Magnificent (1960), Two-Way Stretch (1960), The Rebel (1961), Tarzan's Three Challenges (1963), She (1965), Tarzan and the Great River (1967), The Big Game (1972) and The Man With Bogart's Face (1980). The last of his many TV movies was Fire: Trapped on the 37th Floor in 1991. He was married to the actress Dorothy Provine for more than 40 years until her death in 2010. His brother, Ernest Day, was also a camera operator and directed a couple of Hollywood films in the early 1980s.
