Born - 19 November 1919, North Shields, Tyne and Wear, England
Died - 19 May 2016

Round-faced, fair-haired, slightly-wistful-looking entertainer, born Angus Young in England of Scottish parentage, but in Canada (later America) from an early age. A light comedian and beguiling entertainer, he had his own radio show at 17. After World War Two he moved into the occasional film, usually with star billing: Margie (1946), Chicken Every Sunday (1948), Mr Belvedere Goes to College (1949), Marshmallow Moon (1951), Androcles and the Lion (1952), Gentlemen Marry Brunettes (1955), tom thumb (1958) and The Time Machine (1960). In 1961, he began starring in the TV comedy show Mr Ed, about a man who kept a talking horse. It ran for years, through almost 150 episodes. In later times, Young made a few more film appearances: Baker's Hawk (1976), The Cat from Outer Space (1978), Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983, the first of many times he would voice Disney's Scrooge McDuck), Platinum Blonde (1988), Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), The Time Machine (remake, 2002) and Em & Me (2004), his last, although he continued to voice Scrooge McDuck in shorts, video games and TV series until the year of his death. Three times married and divorced, he died in his sleep.
