Anne Heywood

Born - 11 December 1931, Handsworth, Warwickshire, England
Died - 23 October 2023

Sleek, dark-haired, apple-cheeked English actress, born Violet Pretty, and a beauty contest winner (Miss Great Britain 1950) who later worked hard to be recognised as a serious actress. She prospered in the 1950s with Rank Films, but her choice of later roles was somewhat dubious, with the exception of her strong performance in 1967's The Fox: Lady Godiva Rides Again (1951), Checkpoint (1956), Dangerous Exile (1957), Doctor at Large (1957), Violent Playground (1957), Floods of Fear (1958), Upstairs and Downstairs (1959), A Terrible Beauty (1960), Stork Talk (1961), Vengeance (1962), The Very Edge (1963), 90 Degrees in the Shade (1964), The Awful Story of the Nun of Monza (1968), The Most Dangerous Man in the World (1969), A Run on Gold (1969), I Want What I Want (1971), The Killer is on the Phone (1972), Trader Horn (1973), Dance in the Open Air Under the Elms (1975), Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff (1978), Ring of Darkness (1979) and What Waits Below (1984), her last. Long married to producer Raymond Stross (died 1988), her second husband pre-deceased her in 2021. She died from cancer.
