Jack Hedley

Actor

Born - 28 October 1929, Battersea, London, England
Died - 11 December 2021

British actor of rather glum good looks and fair, curly hair, who gained a few star film roles in the strength of his success as the hero of TV mystery serials by Francis Durbridge. But his dour, slightly colourless personality was not well suited to the big screen, although his innate sincerity kept him busy in TV work from the 1970s on. Born Jack Hawkins (a change of name for acting purposes was inevitable!) in south London, he made his film debut in a small role in A Night to Remember (1957). Further movie credits included Behind the Mask (1958), Left, Right and Centre (1959), Make Mine Mink (1960), Never Back Losers (1961), The Longest Day (1962), In the French Style (1962), The Very Edge (1963), The Scarlet Blade (1963), Witchcraft (1964), The Secret of Blood Island (1965), How I Won the War (1967), The Anniversary (1968), Goodbye, Mr Chips (1969), The Devil's Advocate (1977), For Your Eyes Only (1981), The New York Ripper (1982), Three Kinds of Heat (1987) and Character (1997), his last. Three times married, he died from a heart attack.
