Glamorous, light-haired, full-lipped singer and actress from America's Deep South, with classic cheekbones. A popular vocalist from the late 1930s, Healy, a teenage beauty queen, married actor/comedian and light singer Peter Lind Hayes; together they enjoyed great success in nightclubs and especially TV. Signed by 20th-Century Fox in 1938, Healy's talent was never quite assertive enough to make her a top star: Thanks for Everything (1938), Josette (1938), Second Fiddle (1939), 20,000 Men a Year (1939), He Married His Wife (1940), singing the classic title song in Star Dust (1940), Hard Guy (1941), Zis Boom Bah (1941), The Yanks Are Coming (1942) and Strictly in the Groove (1942). During this period, she also made several jukebox 'soundies', including Miss Johnson Phoned Again and Ghost of a Chance (both 1941). Later she and Hayes starred in the cult fantasy-musical, The 5000 Fingers of Dr T (1953). Her last cinema appearance was a cameo in Lookin' to Get Out (1982). She died from natural causes. Hayes (born Joseph Lind Jr) died in 1998.
