John Forsythe

Actor

Born - 29 January 1918, Penn's Grove, New Jersey, USA
Died - 1 April 2010

Solidly-built, dark-haired, dependable-looking leading man, now best-remembered as the patriarch Blake Carrington in the TV series Dynasty, and as the voice of Charlie in TV's Charlie's Angels. His film career never hit the same heights, although he had small roles in Destination Tokyo and Northern Pursuit (both 1943) before war service, then taught drama to help keep his acting career afloat. It was a little 'sleeper' film called The Captive City (1952) that put him back on the movie map. After Escape from Fort Bravo and The Glass Web (both 1953), Hitchcock gave him the male lead in The Trouble with Harry (1955), recalling him 15 years later for Topaz, but TV continued to provide the bulk of his work. Occasional films included In Cold Blood (1967), ...And Justice for All (1979) and Scrooged (1988), and he again provided the voice of Charlie in the two spin-off "Angels' films of the early 2000s. His second wife died in 1994 after more than 50 years of marriage; he remarried in 2002. Born John Freund, the actor died from pneumonia after a long battle against cancer of the colon.
