Carleton Carpenter

Actor/writer/composer

Born - 10 July 1926, Bennington, Vermont, USA
Died - 31 January 2022

Very tall, gangly, light-haired American actor with puzzled expression who, despite coming from New England, was often cast as 'country boys' during his four-year tenure with MGM. The studio took him up after seeing him in Lost Boundaries (1949) and cast him in Father of the Bride (1950), Three Little Words (1950), If You Feel Like Singing/Summer Stock (1950), Two Weeks With Love (1950, in which his Aba Daba Honeymoon duet with Debbie Reynolds became the first soundtrack song to become a No.1 Gold Record), Richer Than the Earth/The Whistle at Eaton Falls (1951), Vengeance Valley (1951), Fearless Fagan (1952), Sky Full of Moon (1952), Take the High Ground! (1953), Up Periscope (1959), The Honorable Frauds/Cauliflower Cupids (1966), Some of My Best Friends Are... (1971), The Prowler (1981) and The American Snitch (1983), his last. Writing songs and (later) crime novels kept him busy. A lifetime achievement award in 2012 was presented by Debbie Reynolds.
