Ann E Todd

Actress

Born - 26 August 1931, Denver, Colorado, USA
Died - 7 February 2020

Pleasant-faced American child actress with brown curly hair and a faint resemblance to Shirley Temple, whom she supported in The Blue Bird (1940). A highly competent performer capable of drawing tears from an easily-moved audience, she was exceptionally busy in the early war years after a debut at seven. Born Ann Todd Phillips, she was often billed without her middle initial, which she sometimes used to avoid confusion with the adult English star Ann Todd. After a debut in Zaza (1938), she was seen in dozens more, including Intermezzo (1939), Stronger Than Desire (1939), Tower of London (1939), Dr Ehrlich's Magic Bullet (1940), All This, and Heaven Too (1940), Brigham Young (1940), How Green Was My Valley (1941), Blood and Sand (1941), Bad Men of Missouri (1941), On the Sunny Side (1942), Beyond the Blue Horizon (1942), Kings Row (1942), Dixie Dugan (1943), Janie (1944), Roughly Speaking (1945), Pride of the Marines (1945), The Jolson Story (1946), Margie (1946), Dangerous Years (1947), The Birds and the Bees (1948), Cover Up (1949) and The Lion Hunters (1951), her last. After appearing in scores of episodes of The Trouble With Father on TV in the 1950s, she left acting behind when marrying her second husband in 1955. She later taught music and served as a music librarian. Her husband died in 1993.
