Don Francks

Actor/musician

Born - 28 February 1932, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Died - 3 April 2016

Rugged, tawny-haired, spade-chinned Canadian actor, jazz trombonist/drummer, poet and vocalist, a multi-talent perhaps best remembered as the energetic and romantic Woody Mahoney in the musical Finian's Rainbow (1968). Also a forthright spokesman for native Canadian affairs (he married into the Cree tribe), he was busy on TV from 1954, working prodigiously in the medium thereafter. His film career was perhaps less fulfilling: The Fast Ones (1959), Drylanders (1963), McCabe & Mrs Miller (1971), Drying Up the Streets (1977), Fast Company (1979), My Bloody Valentine (1981), Terminal Choice (1985), The Big Town (1987), Married To It (1991), Johnny Mnemonic (1995), Bogus (1996), Dinner at Fred's (1997), The Minion (1998), My Name is Tanino (2002), Lie With Me (2005), I'm Not There (2007), Finding ODO (2009), He Never Died (2015) and The Second Time Around (2016), his last. He died from cancer.
