Menahem Golan

Director-producer

Born - 31 May 1929, Tiberias, Palestine (now Israel)
Died - 8 August 2014

Bulky, dark-haired, ebullient film-maker, born Menahem Globus, who had his best (and worst) years after setting up Cannon Films with his younger cousin Yoram Globus. The company overreached itself within a few years of making splashy (usually not very good) commercial films with 'A' list stars, but Golan continued to direct films until quite recent times. After a directing debut with El Dorado (1963), he also helmed Tevye and His Seven Daughters (1968), What's Good for the Goose (1969), Escape to the Sun (1972), Lepke (1975), Diamonds (1975), The Magician of Lublin (1979), Enter the Ninja (1981), Over the Brooklyn Bridge (1984), The Delta Force (1986), Hanna's War (1988), Hit the Dutchman (1992), The Versace Murder (1998), Crime and Punishment (2002), Days of Love (2005) and Marriage Agreement (2008), his last.
