Burt Kwouk

Actor

Born - 18 July 1930, Warrington, Cheshire
Died - 24 May 2016

Britain's busiest 'oriental' actor from the late 1950s to the late 1970s, Cheshire-born, Shanghai-raised Kwouk has rarely been off cinema and TV screens since his film debut in 1957. Best remembered as Peter Sellers' maniacal manservant Kato in most of the 'Pink Panther' comedies, he was also prominent in the long-running Tenko series on TV. Born Herbert Kwouk and an unmistakeable character with his seductively harsh tones and impassive stare, his many movies include Windom's Way (1957), The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958), Expresso Bongo (1959), The Terror of the Tongs (1961), The War Lover (1962), A Shot in the Dark (1964), Goldfinger (1964), The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966), Casino Royale (1967), Deep End (1970), The Return of the Pink Panther (1974), The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), The Fiendish Plot of Dr Fu Manchu (1980), Curse of the Pink Panther (1983), Plenty (1985), Empire of the Sun (1987), Air America (1990), Carry On Columbus (1992), Son of the Pink Panther (1993), Peggy Su! (1997), Kiss of the Dragon (2001), Fat Slags (2004) and Low Winter Sun (2006), his last. He died from cancer.
