Angelic-looking, fair-haired child player of the 1940s and 1950s who later embarked on a distinguished and much-decorated army career. Born close to many of Hollywood's famous film studios, the youngster, born Thomas Anthony Sydes, and always known as Tom to his family, was in films at the tender age of five, twice playing fellow child actor Natalie Wood's brother: Johnny Comes Flying Home (1946), Claudia and David (1946), Miracle on 34th Street (1947), Driftwood (1947), Canon City (1948), Sitting Pretty (1948), Chicken Every Sunday (1949), Reign of Terror/The Black Book (1949), Shadow on the Wall (1950), Cheaper by the Dozen (1950), Belles on Their Toes (1952), The Glenn Miller Story (1954), Lust for Life (1956) and Gunsmoke in Tucson (1958), his last. After retiring from the army, he ran a successful auction business. Brother of actress Cindy Carol (formerly Carol Sydes).
