Chestnut-haired American actress of quiet prettiness, one of the last surviving members from the cast of Gone With the Wind (1939), her third film. A low-key leading lady and bright supporting player, she was born Bebe Anderson and made her debut in The Women (1939). Later credits include Flight Angels (1940), All This, and Heaven Too (1940), Cheers for Miss Bishop (1941), Bahama Passage (1941), The Song of Bernadette (1943), the nurse in Hitchcock's Lifeboat (1944), Wilson (1944), Within These Walls (1945), To Each His Own (1946), Whispering City (1947), a pirate in Last of the Buccaneers (1950), two as leading lady to Dan Duryea - The Underworld Story (1950) and Chicago Calling (1951) - One Big Affair (1952), I, the Jury (1953), Dangerous Crossing (1954) and Jet Over the Atlantic (1959). Much later, she played a cameo in Cheech and Chong's Next Movie (1980), her last. She married (second) cinematographer Leon Shamroy, but their only child died in infancy. Shamroy passed away in 1974. Her brother was the actor James Anderson: he died in 1969.
