Norman Lloyd

Actor

Born - 8 November 1914, Jersey City, New Jersey, USA
Died - 11 May 2021

Small, gnome-like, fair-haired (soon balding) supporting player, best remembered as the villain who falls to his death from the Statue of Liberty at the end of Hitchcock's Saboteur (1942). That began a lifetime association between the two men, with Lloyd producing, and sometimes directing, countless episodes of Hitchcock's TV series. Born Norman Perlmutter, the actor was Hollywood's oldest centenarian and enjoyed 75 years of marriage to his wife Peggy, who died in 2011. First seen on screen in the short subject The Forgotten Man (1941) after extensive experience with Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre, and busy as an actor in films for the next decade before diversifying, his credits included The Unseen (1945), A Walk in the Sun (1945), The Southerner (1945), A Letter for Evie (1946), The Green Years (1946), Young Widow (1946), The Beginning or the End (1947), No Minor Vices (1948), Reign of Terror/The Black Book (1949), Calamity Jane and Sam Bass (1949), Buccaneer's Girl (1950), The Flame and the Arrow (1950), M (1951), He Ran All the Way (1951), Limelight (1952), The Scarecrow (1972), Audrey Rose (1977), FM (1978), The Nude Bomb (1980), Jaws of Satan (1981), Dead Poets Society (1989), Journey of Honor (1991), The Age of Innocence (1993), The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000), In Her Shoes (2005), A Place for Heroes (2013), Trainwreck (2015) and Broadway: Beyond the Golden Age (2018), his last.
