David Nelson

Actor-director

Born - 24 October 1936, New York City, USA
Died - 11 January 2011

Solidly-built actor with fair curly hair, the son of bandleader Ozzie Nelson and actress Harriet Hilliard, and brother of actor-singer Ricky (Rick) Nelson. The boys appeared with their parents in the TV comedy show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, which later transferred to TV for a 15-year-run. In the meantime, Ricky (who died in a plane crash in 1985) became a pop star and David forged a sporadic career in acting, which he later combined with direction. After a debut in Here Come the Nelsons (1952), he was seen in Peyton Place (1957), The Remarkable Mr Pennypacker (1959), -30-/Deadline Midnight (1959), The Big Show (1961), Love and Kisses (1965) and others. He began his directorial career with Childish Things (1969) and later made Easy to be Free (1973), Last Plane Out (1983) and Carnauba/A Rare Breed (1984). Later acting appearances (mostly cameos) included Up in Smoke (1978) and Cry-Baby (1990), his last. The first of his two wives was actress June Blair. He died from colonic cancer.
