Casey Kasem

Actor/Voice artist

Born - 27 April 1932, Detroit, Michigan, USA
Died - 15 June 2014

Not-too-tall, dark-haired actor with white smile. Born Kemal Kasem of Lebanese parentage, he began his film career in biker-style exploitation movies from American-International, and made a name for himself soon afterwards as a deejay. But the greater part of his fame rests with his voicing the role of Shaggy in the long-running TV series about the dog Scooby-Doo, which he played from the 1960s to the 1990s and beyond. He had already voiced cartoon characters on TV before a film debut in The Glory Stompers (1967). Similar stuff followed - Wild Wheels (1969), The Cycle Savages (1969), The Girls from Thunder Strip (1970) and more, then The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant (1971), The Doomsday Machine (1972), Soul Hustler (1973), The Gumball Rally (1976), New York New York (1977), Disco Fever (1978) and The Dark (1979), before Scooby-Doo consumed his life. His last work on screen was the short NIBRS: Reloaded in 2013. He died from Lewy Body Disease, a form of dementia.
