Tall, dark, lean, prolific American film-maker and powerful independent producer who gave starts to several notable directors. In various capacities, Corman had a hand in almost 500 films, but, after beginning in low-budget westerns and creature features, is perhaps best remembered for his series of atmospheric Pathecolor horror films loosely based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe. Massive CV as director includes Five Guns West (1954), The Day the World Ended (1955), The Beast With a Million Eyes (1955), The Undead (1956), Not of This Earth (1957), Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957), I, Mobster (1958), Machine-Gun Kelly (1958), Wasp Woman (1959), A Bucket of Blood), (1959), Little Shop of Horrors (1960), House of Usher (1960), The Stranger/The Intruder (1961), The Pit and the Pendulum (1961), Tales of Terror (1962), The Premature Burial (1962), Tower of London (1962), The Raven (1963), The Terror (1963), The Haunted Palace (1963), The Masque of the Red Death (1964), The Tomb of Ligeia (1964), The Wild Angels (1966), The St Valentine's Day Massacre (1967), Bloody Mama (1969), The Red Baron (1971) and Frankenstein Unbound (1990), his last. Survived by Julie, his wife of more than 50 years, and four children.
